The Workshop

Supporting our workshop directly helps support our mission and makes our edutainment possible, supporting our live shows, events, original stories and more!

Gallery

Our friends Mush and Chups are made from upcycled materials, much like their original story. As it goes, two scarecrows were brought to life by a strike of lightning, changing into a big blue dog and a bright yellow cat.

Two field mice, Picca and Dilly, live inside their pockets. They love collecting old bits and bobs and turning them upcycled treasures!

Upcycling Process

Take a behind the scenes peak at our very own upcycled character costumes we created for our live shows and events, as well as the process for making custom orders!

Initial Request

You can make an inquiry/request through our custom order form, including any reference images of your mascot/character. You'll be sent an email reply with the requirements needed so we can get you an estimate for the order.

Requirements

We will ask for your requirements, including type of costume needed (soft head mascot, hard head, or bodysuit), general use, quantity, size specifications, design, material types such as natural fiber, recycled polyester, eco blends etc.

Estimate

Basic costumes start at $5-10k, additional customisations and design requests range from $15-25k, and especially complex designs, with high quality finishes and material range from $45-60k. These are general pricing, a detailed estimate can be provided upon request.

Design

Your mascot's design will be drafted up, based on any reference images provided. Any character or outfit designs will also be completed at this stage. After approval, the final design will be sketched up and provided as a turnaround, showing the views of each axis in preparation for patterning.

Patterning

We transfer the turnarounds onto paper and prepare the patterns for fabrication.

EVA Foam Construction

EVA foam is used to build up the structure of the mascot's head and/or bodysuit, adding padding to the chest, knees, and elbows where needed. Papier-mâché is then added to create additional surface details and to even out the surface for fabrication.

Fabrication

Soft, quality fabric is used to build up on top of the costume's structure, as well as create any body suits or additional pieces of clothing for the costume. Wadding, lining and finishes are sewn together.

Detailing

Finishes and details are added, including additional fixtures for the costumes such as shoes and gloves. Details on the mascot's costume such as eyes, teeth, etc.

Add Ons

We offer additional add ons, including cooling options like fans, ventilation and cooling vests, as well as other special requests.

Delivery

OceansCrusoe has a 4-6 week turn around from payment to completion, not including shipping. 100% Australian Made, fabricated in house, and made with recycled/upcycled materials. We also offer repair service and inquiries.

Our Mascot Suits refer to a structured costume made using a combination of EVA foam, fabric, and other materials, typically including a fully covered head and body suit. We can also create additional costuming for the Mascot Suit, including any tops/bottoms that the design may include.

Our Costumes refer to a tailored piece of clothing, typically compromised of a top and bottoms set with matching accessories. Our Costumes use lightweight materials (cotton/spandex/wool) and are worn as the clothing, unlike our Mascot Suits which are fully structured suit worn on top.

We provide design services for apparel such as t-shirts, hoodies, caps/hats etc, working with an existing design you're looking to update or creating a complimentary design that can be used with your existing offerings. We also provide character design/mascot creation services.

We can provide digital artwork and 2d animation for use in promotional material, including videos, social media posts, or other promotional graphics. Digital illustrations can also be provided for print and/or other digital distribution, including stickers/posters/apparel and more.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is taking something old and turning it into something else, repurposing it and giving it a new life. It's a great way to get another use out of something you already own, or something you bought second hand.

This might be turning a pair of jeans into shorts, re-painting a piece of old furniture, sewing scraps of fabric to make a blanket, or making a dolls house out of cardboard.
